Mandopop singer Jay Chou (周杰倫) really does love A-mei (阿妹) — his grandma, that is, who has the same name as the pop diva.
Jay took along his 87-year-old grandmother, Yeh Chan A-mei (葉詹阿妹), while attending an anti-tobacco press conference on Tuesday, the first time he has endorsed the campaign, for free.
Jay said the elder A-mei was nervous before attending the event and excited to see so many microphones in front of her.
“She might reveal my secrets without knowing it, so it’s better that she does not speak much during the joint interview,” he joked.
Having endorsed numerous products, Jay said he would like to do a “gas poisoning” public warning as he was nearly killed in a gas leak accident at good friend and actor Will Liu’s (劉畊宏) apartment, before he became a singer.
Jay and songbird A-mei, aka Chang Hui-mei (張惠妹), were said to be rather intimate on an airplane from Shenyang to Taipei last month.
The two sat next to each other and shared headphones. Their agents denied that there was any romance going on.
May Daily Says: And we believe them.
